November’s program offers the rewarding opportunity to see firsthand the positive impact the Loudoun Sampler Guild has in the area of textile preservation. The latest project to receive a LSG Betty Whiting Fleming grant involves the conservation treatment of the Eleanora Neale sampler belonging to Georgetown Visitation Preparatory School. The treatment is being undertaken by the conservation professionals known as Textile Preservation Associates (TPA) in Ranson, WV.
At 10 a.m. on Saturday the 10th, conservator Cathy Heffner will speak for about 30 minutes on the general topic of textile conservation and then entertain questions. The small lab will safely hold about 15 visitors at a time so, depending on how many participants we have, we will split into groups. Cathy has graciously agreed to repeat her presentation to accommodate rotating groups. I will keep my fingers crossed that Cathy can show us Eleanora Neale, but there is no guarantee of that. What I can guarantee is that we’re bound to gain some fascinating new information!
Although there will be no cost to members for this program, I will need to have a head count for participants. Please let me know if you will participate via the coupon included in the October newsletter, or e via e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org, by November 2 please. Thereafter, I’ll email a list to all participants to facilitate carpooling.
TPA’s address is: 107 Topper Ave, Ranson, WV 25438.
