Another Virginia Sampler Guild Reaches Out

This comment was left on here on our blog on one of our posts;  I’m copying it here to make sure everyone sees it.

“The Tidewater Sampler Guild meets every other month on the second Sunday at Old Donation Church in Virginia Beach, VA from 1:30 to 4:00.  Send an email to Tricia Johnson at and she will send the current newsletter with membership information.”

I was intrigued by the name of the church where the Tidewater Sampler Guild meets, and found this on the church’s website:  “The Church was originally established as Lynnhaven Parish Church. The word “Donation” was informally added after 1776 when the last colonial rector, the Reverend Robert Dickson donated land to the church to continue the funding of his boys’ orphanage. “Old” first appeared in the Vestry Record in 1822, when the vestry ordered that the “church called ‘old Donation Church’ be put in repair.” Old Donation is included on the National Register of Historic Places and is one of the stops on the Bayside History Trail.

The Loudoun Sampler Guild is a group of sampler enthusiasts based in northern Virginia. We meet monthly for lectures, needlework classes and workshops, and field trips.
